Even when Darwinism is constrained to consist merely of theses that follow from biological science, it provides the material for persons to construct the meaning of their lives, once they understand their situation in the world.  But this modest Darwinism leaves open the question whether that meaningfulness includes a place for religion, which remains a choice each society and each individual in that society must make. It does give us the meaning of life, but only up to a point. It has a blank spot on the subject of religion, which we may fill in as we please.
