Humanists of BUC

If you believe that human experience and rational thinking, rather than a divine or supernatural being or spirit, provide the primary source of both knowledge and a moral code to live by, then you will appreciate attending meetings of the Humanists of BUC.

Our purpose is to provide members and friends of the Birmingham Unitarian Church, as well as atheists, agnostics, freethinkers and other non-theists in the larger community, an opportunity for thought, discussion and action concerning humanist values and traditions as expressed in the Seven Principles of the UUA and those in Humanist Manifesto III. Leaders of the church and community have an opportunity to present their core values and how they exemplify Humanism. Attendees have received information, discussed and participated in social and environmental justice issues such as climate change, church-state relations, voter suppression, race relations, LGBTQ rights, religious extremism and many others.

Our Sunday monthly meetings start at 12 noon with a light lunch. Following a short talk on Humanism, the principal speaker will end with a discussion period to share views of the attendees.  During the Corona virus pandemic, we are having virtual meetings twice monthly via Zoom.
